Washington consumers matched with $55 million in life insurance benefits
OLYMPIA, Wash. — Insurance Commissioner Patty Kuderer announced that Washington consumers matched with $55,719,024 in life insurance and annuity benefits through the Life Insurance Policy Locator, a free tool that helps beneficiaries find unclaimed policies.
Over the past year, 5,235 residents have submitted search requests, leading to 2,386 confirmed matches worth $55,719,024 in benefits as of July 30, 2026. That amount reflects a $10,343,825 increase over the previous year.
“Life insurance exists to support families through difficult moments,” Kuderer said. “I am happy people are being connected to their benefits using this tool. For families and communities unable to get their benefits, I know this tool will continue to be a great resource.”
The Life Insurance Policy Locator, hosted by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), searches participating insurance companies on a beneficiary's behalf, at no cost, to help identify life insurance policies and annuity contracts.
How to use the Life Insurance Policy Locator
- Visit the secure, encrypted Life Insurance Policy Locator portal.
- Submit a request with the deceased's information, including their Social Security number, legal name, date of birth, and date of death.
- If a match is found and the requester is confirmed as the beneficiary, the insurance company will contact them directly. Searches may take 90 business days or more to complete.
- A response is sent only if a match is found and the requester is the beneficiary.
