Russia Claims Control of Brusivka in Donetsk
A statement from Russia’s Defense Ministry said the village of Brusivka, located about 14 kilometers (8.7 miles) northeast of Sloviansk, was captured.
Sloviansk remains one of Ukraine’s last strongholds in the east, alongside Kramatorsk, which became the administrative center of Donetsk after Moscow seized the city of Donetsk in 2014.
Ukraine’s General Staff reported that Russian forces carried out nine assaults near five settlements along the Lyman front, including the town of Lyman, roughly 9 kilometers (5.6 miles) north of Brusivka.
Ukrainian authorities have not responded to Russia’s latest claim, and independent verification is challenging due to the ongoing conflict, which entered its fifth year last month.
